Mithun Chakraborty Son’s Debut Movie | Bad Boy (2023) | Namashi Chakraborthy | Amrin | Johny Lever (2026) Movie watch Review

Bad Boy Movie Review: Does Mithun’s Son Namashi Chakraborty Live Up to the Hype?

The wait is finally over for fans of the legendary “Disco Dancer” Mithun Chakraborty. His son, Namashi Chakraborty, has officially stepped into the limelight with his debut film, Bad Boy (2023). Directed by the veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, this movie tries to bring back the old-school romantic comedy charm. But does it manage to win hearts in the age of gritty OTT thrillers? Let’s dive deep into this review.

The Plot: A Classic ‘Rich Girl, Poor Boy’ Saga

Bad Boy follows a very familiar Bollywood trope. Raghu (Namashi Chakraborty) is a carefree, “tapori” style youngster who falls head over heels for Ritika (Amrin). However, Ritika comes from a very disciplined and conservative family. Her father (played by Saswata Chatterjee) is a tough nut to crack.

The story revolves around Raghu’s struggle to prove he is a “good boy” despite his rebellious image. If you’ve grown up watching 90s cinema, you’ll find the plot very nostalgic, though a bit dated for 2023.

Performances: Namashi, Amrin, and the Comedy King

Namashi Chakraborty definitely has his father’s energy. He is confident, dances well, and has a decent screen presence. While he still needs to work on his emotional scenes, for a debut, he holds his own. Amrin looks beautiful and does a fair job, though her character doesn’t offer much room for high-octane acting.

The real soul of the movie is the supporting cast. Having Johny Lever on screen is always a treat. His comic timing brings much-needed laughter to a predictable script. Saswata Chatterjee, known for his serious roles, plays the strict father with a touch of humor that works well.

The Technical Aspect: Critique of the Hindi Dubbing Quality

Interestingly, even though Bad Boy is a native Hindi film, there has been a lot of talk about its audio-visual sync. If you watch the movie closely, the Hindi “dubbing” or ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) feels a bit disconnected in several scenes.

In many high-energy sequences, the lip-sync doesn’t match the audio perfectly, giving it the feel of a South Indian movie dubbed into Hindi. The background score often overpowers the dialogues, making the audio quality feel a bit dated, almost like a mid-2000s production. For a 2023 release, viewers expect crisp, spatial sound, but Bad Boy feels a bit loud and unpolished in the sound department.

Rajkumar Santoshi’s Direction: A Comparison

When we think of Rajkumar Santoshi, we think of masterpieces like Ghayal, Damini, or the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna. Compared to those gems, Bad Boy feels like a much weaker entry in his filmography.

While Santoshi’s previous film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani was a fresh take on rom-coms, Bad Boy feels stuck in the past. The direction lacks the “punch” we usually associate with him. It feels like he tried to recreate the Andaz Apna Apna magic but ended up with a standard masala entertainer that lacks a unique identity.

Music and Cinematography

The music by Himesh Reshammiya is catchy. Songs like “Janabe Ali” are already popular on Instagram reels and provide a good platform for Namashi to showcase his dancing skills. The cinematography is bright and colorful, suiting the rom-com genre, but there is nothing groundbreaking here.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it worth a 4K watch?

Verdict: One-Time View (Skip the 4K)

If you are a hardcore fan of Mithun Da and want to see his son’s first step in Bollywood, you can give this a watch. However, Bad Boy is not exactly a “cinematic masterpiece” that requires a 4K high-definition experience.

The movie is a typical “no-brainer” entertainer. It works best as a one-time view on a lazy Sunday afternoon when you want something light and colorful. The predictable plot and the technical glitches in the audio-sync make it less appealing for a premium viewing experience.

Our Rating: 2.5/5 Stars

Final Thought: Namashi Chakraborty has potential, but he needs a better script to truly shine. Bad Boy is a decent launchpad, but it struggles to stay relevant in today’s evolving cinema landscape.
