I finally watched Kalki 2898 AD last night, and I have a lot to say about it. I had been waiting for this movie for a long time. It is easily one of the most ambitious films coming out of India. When I saw the first trailer, I was worried it might look like a cheap copy of Hollywood. However, after watching the full movie, I can say I was mostly wrong.

Why I Liked the Story and Setting

The movie mixes Indian mythology with a futuristic world. I loved how they brought characters like Ashwatthama to life. Amitabh Bachchan looked like a giant on screen. His energy made me forget his age. Prabhas has a light-hearted role, which reminded me of his old films. The story moves a bit slow in the first half. But the second half is where the real fun begins. I felt the world-building was very detailed and smart.

How it Compares to Nag Ashwin’s Previous Movies

If you have seen Nag Ashwin’s earlier film Mahanati, you know he is a master of emotions. Mahanati was a grounded drama. On the other hand, this movie is a massive sci-fi spectacle. I think he handled the big budget very well. He did not lose the soul of the story for just VFX. However, I felt the emotional depth was a bit more in his previous work. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

Now, let’s talk about the part most of you care about. I watched this in 4K resolution. The image quality is stunning. The color grading is very dark and gritty, which fits the future theme. The skin tones look natural. The details on the costumes are very clear.

For the Hindi dubbing, I have mixed feelings. Usually, South Indian movies have weird Hindi dialogues. But here, the Hindi dubbing is quite professional. I noticed that the lip-sync for Prabhas and Deepika was almost perfect. It did not feel like I was watching a dubbed movie. The voice actors used simple Hindi that we speak every day. They did not use heavy or poetic words that feel fake. The sound mixing in the Hindi version is also very loud and clear.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it Worth a 4K Watch?

I get asked this a lot: should you watch this in 4K? My answer is a big yes. If you have a good TV and a soundbar, the 4K version is a treat. The dark scenes have deep blacks without any noise. It is not just a one-time watch. You will want to re-watch the climax scenes just for the visuals. It is a great movie to show off your home theater system. If you watch it on a small phone screen, you will miss many small details.

Conclusion

Overall, I really enjoyed this cinematic journey. It has some flaws in the comedy timing, but the action makes up for it. The VFX is world-class and the Hindi version is very well-made. It is a proud moment for Indian cinema. I hope we see more such bold attempts in the future.
