[post_title], review

I finally sat down to watch Kalki 2898 AD last night. I had high hopes for this one. This movie is a massive mix of science fiction and Indian mythology. It tries to do something very new for Indian cinema. I was curious to see if it lives up to the huge hype.

You can read more about the movie’s cast and background on its official Wikipedia page. I have also shared my thoughts on other big releases on hdfolders.com, so do check those out.

The Story and My First Impressions

I think the way the story starts is very cool. It begins during the Mahabharata war. Then, it jumps thousands of years into the future. The world has changed. Water is rare. Everyone lives in a place called “The Complex.”

I really liked how the director, Nag Ashwin, built this world. It feels like a mix of Star Wars and ancient Indian stories. I felt proud seeing such high-level concepts in a local movie. The pacing is a bit slow at the start. But the second half really picks up speed. I was hooked until the very end.

Nag Ashwin’s Vision vs His Past Work

I have followed Nag Ashwin’s work for a long time. I remember watching Mahanati and feeling so much emotion. That movie was a masterpiece of storytelling. However, Kalki 2898 AD is a totally different beast.

In his previous films, Nag focused on deep human emotions. Here, he focuses more on world-building and big action. Compared to his first film, Yevade Subramanyam, this movie feels like a huge jump. He has handled the big budget quite well. I think he is currently one of the bravest directors in India. He is not afraid to try big things.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is the part I was most worried about. I watched the 4K version on a big screen. I must say, the 4K resolution is very sharp. Every detail on the characters’ armor is clear. The color grading is dark and gritty, which fits the future theme. The blacks are deep and don’t look muddy.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. Usually, South Indian movies have weird Hindi dubs. But here, I was pleasantly surprised. Amitabh Bachchan dubbed for himself, and his voice is magical. It adds a lot of weight to the scenes.

Prabhas’s Hindi voice also felt more natural this time. The lip-sync was almost perfect in most scenes. I didn’t feel like I was watching a “translated” movie. The team did a great job making it feel like a real Hindi film. The background score also fits the Hindi dialogues perfectly.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

You might be wondering if you should watch this in 4K or just on your phone. My advice? This is definitely a 4K watch. The visual effects (VFX) are some of the best I have seen in India. If you watch it on a small screen, you will miss the small details.

The sound design is also very heavy. You need a good sound system to enjoy the battles. It is not just a one-time watch. I think I will watch it again just to catch the hidden details in the background. It is a visual treat that deserves a high-quality screen.

Conclusion

Overall, I really enjoyed Kalki 2898 AD. It has some flaws, like the slow first hour. But the climax is so good that you forget the boring parts. Amitabh Bachchan is the real hero for me in this film. He looks like a giant on the screen.

If you like sci-fi and mythology, please don’t miss this. It is a big step forward for our cinema. I am already waiting for the second part.

My Rating: 4/5
