I just watched Kalki 2898 AD, and I have a lot to say. I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. Indian cinema is finally trying something huge in the sci-fi genre. I was curious to see if it lives up to the massive hype. After sitting through the whole film, I feel it is a bold step forward.
How It Compares to Nag Ashwin’s Previous Films
I have followed Nag Ashwin’s work since Yevade Subramanyam and the masterpiece Mahanati. He is a director who loves big stories. In Mahanati, he focused on human emotions and drama. In Kalki 2898 AD, he goes much bigger. He mixes Indian mythology with a future world.
I noticed that his style has changed. He used to focus on small details. Now, he is playing with huge sets and CGI. While I missed the simple heart of his earlier films, I liked his vision here. He is trying to create a world like Marvel or Star Wars but with an Indian soul. If you liked our review of Salaar, you will see that this movie is even more ambitious.
Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing
I watched this in 4K resolution, and it looked stunning. The image is very sharp. I loved how the dark scenes looked. The black levels are very deep. The colors are not too loud; they look quite real and gritty. You can see the dust and the metal textures clearly. It is a treat for anyone with a big TV.
Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. Usually, South Indian films dubbed in Hindi feel a bit off. However, the Hindi dubbing for Kalki 2898 AD is surprisingly good. I felt that the voice actors did a great job. Prabhas’s voice fits his character well. The dialogues do not feel like a literal translation. They feel natural.
The lip-sync is mostly perfect. I did not see many moments where the mouth movements were different from the sound. This is very important for a movie this big. It helps you stay inside the story. If you enjoy high-quality dubbing, you might also like our take on the Pushpa review on our site.
The Story and Pace
The first half of the movie is a bit slow. I felt it took too long to set up the world. I wanted more action early on. But the second half is where things get exciting. The mix of the Mahabharata scenes with the future world is the best part. I was hooked during the climax.
I think the supporting cast did a better job than the leads. Amitabh Bachchan is the real hero of this film for me. His presence is massive. Every time he is on screen, I couldn’t look away. Deepika Padukone also played her part with a lot of grace.
Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?
Is this worth a 4K watch? Absolutely. This is not a movie you watch on a small phone screen. You need the best quality to see the hard work of the VFX team. The scale of the movie demands a 4K screen and a good sound system.
I wouldn’t call it a “one-time watch” because there are many hidden details. You might want to watch it again to understand the connections to mythology. I plan to watch the action scenes again just to enjoy the visuals.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed Kalki 2898 AD. It is not perfect, but it is a great attempt. The Hindi dubbing is top-notch. The technical side is world-class. It makes me proud of where our cinema is going. If you love sci-fi and mythology, do not miss this one.
