[post_title], review

I finally watched Kanguva recently, and I have a lot to say about it. There was so much hype around this film. I wanted to see if Suriya could really pull off this massive periodic drama. If you like big action movies, you probably had this on your list too. You can find more details about the cast and crew on its Wikipedia page.

The Story and Suriya’s Performance

I felt that the story tries to be very grand. It jumps between the past and the present. Suriya has worked very hard on his look. In the historical parts, he looks like a real warrior. His eyes show a lot of anger and power. I liked how he handled both roles. However, the present-day scenes felt a bit weak to me. They didn’t have the same soul as the old-world scenes. I was mostly waiting for the movie to go back to the past.

Comparison with Director Siva’s Earlier Films

Director Siva is known for making “mass” entertainers. I have seen his previous films like Viswasam and Vedalam. Those movies were very simple and focused on family emotions. You can read our review of other mass films at hdfolders.com.

In this movie, Siva tried something much bigger. He moved away from the village setting to a fantasy world. I think he handled the scale well, but the pacing was a bit fast. In Viswasam, the emotions felt more natural. Here, everything feels a bit loud. I missed the simple heart that his older movies had. But I must say, his vision for the action scenes has improved a lot.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is the most important part of my review. I watched the movie in 4K resolution. The visual quality is truly great. The color grading is very dark and earthy. It gives a very raw feeling to the forest scenes. The blacks are deep, and the contrast is sharp. If you have a good HDR TV, you will love how the fire and shadows look.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. I was worried about this. Often, South Indian movies lose their charm in Hindi. But here, the Hindi dubbing quality is quite good. The voice actor for Suriya did a great job. He captured the roughness of the character.

The lip-sync is mostly perfect. I didn’t feel like I was watching a dubbed movie in most scenes. Sometimes, the heavy dialogues felt a bit extra in Hindi, but it fits the “hero” vibe. The background music is very loud, though. Sometimes it hides the dialogues, which was a bit annoying for me.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? I would say yes, but only for the visuals. If you have a big 4K screen and a good sound system, you should watch it there. The world Siva created looks beautiful in high resolution. The costumes and the sets are very detailed.

However, if you are looking for a very deep story, you might find it a bit repetitive. To me, it felt like a one-time watch for the experience. It is not a movie I would watch again and again for the plot. But for the action and Suriya’s acting, it is worth your time once.

Conclusion

Overall, the movie is a big step for Tamil cinema. It shows that our directors can dream big. While the story could have been tighter, the technical work is top-notch. I really enjoyed the visual style. The Hindi dubbing makes it easy for North Indian fans to enjoy the show without any issues.

My Rating: 3.5/5
