Anaam Movie Review: Armaan Kohli and Ayesha Jhulka’s Best Suspense Hit

If you love 90s thrillers, you must have heard of Anaam. This movie stars Armaan Kohli and Ayesha Jhulka in lead roles. It is a story about a man who loses his memory. I recently watched this film again in a new high-definition format. I wanted to see if it still feels as exciting as it did back then. In this review, I will share my honest thoughts with you.

The Story and Suspense

The movie starts with a man who has no name. He survives an accident but forgets everything. Armaan Kohli plays this character very well. He looks confused and angry at the same time. Ayesha Jhulka plays the woman who helps him. Their chemistry is quite sweet.

I think the suspense is the best part of this film. You keep wondering who the hero really is. Is he a criminal or an innocent man? The plot has many twists. It reminds me of old Hollywood thrillers. If you like movies with a mystery, you will enjoy this one. You can read more about the cast on the Anaam Wikipedia page.

Director Anees Bazmee’s Vision

Did you know this was the first movie directed by Anees Bazmee? Today, we know him for big comedy hits. He made movies like No Entry and Welcome. You can check out our review of other Anees Bazmee films on our site.

In Anaam, his style was very different. He focused on dark themes and tension. I was surprised to see how well he handled a serious thriller. Compared to his later comedies, this movie feels much more grounded. It shows that he is a versatile director. I wish he made more suspense movies like this one.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

Now, let’s talk about the technical side. I watched the 4K remastered version. The colors look much better now. The skin tones look natural. The dark scenes are clear and do not look grainy.

I noticed something specific about the Hindi dubbing and audio. Since this is an old film, the voices were recorded in a studio later. In the 4K version, the audio is very sharp. However, the Hindi dubbing does not always match the lip-sync. In some scenes, the dialogue starts a bit late.

The background music is also very loud. Sometimes, it hides the dialogues. I felt the sound mixing could be better for a 4K release. The voices sound a bit “hollow” in a few action scenes. But overall, the clarity is much better than the old DVD versions.

My Experience with the Music

The music by Nadeem-Shravan is a big highlight. The songs are very melodic. I found myself humming the tunes even after the movie ended. “O Priya” is my favorite track. The songs do not feel forced. They actually help the story move forward. In the 4K version, the songs sound amazing on a good soundbar.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it worth a 4K watch?

Is Anaam worth watching in 4K? If you are a fan of 90s Bollywood, then yes. The visual upgrade makes it feel like a new movie. The suspense keeps you hooked until the end.

However, if you are not into old-school dramas, it might feel a bit slow. The lip-sync issues in the Hindi dubbing can be annoying. For a casual viewer, a one-time watch is enough. But for collectors, this 4K version is a great find. It is definitely one of Armaan Kohli’s best performances.

Conclusion

I really had a good time revisiting this classic. It has great music, good acting, and a solid plot. The technical glitches in the audio are there, but the story makes up for it. It is a rare suspense hit from that era.

My Rating: 3.5/5
