I recently sat down to watch the classic movie Tahqiqaat. It is a 1993 suspense thriller starring Jeetendra and Aditya Pancholi. If you grew up in the 90s, you probably remember seeing this on TV. I wanted to see how it holds up today. I specifically watched the new 4K version to see the improvements.

The story is a murder mystery. It starts with the death of a young woman named Mary. Jeetendra plays a double role in this film. He is Father John, a priest, and also a police officer. Aditya Pancholi plays Peter, who is a suspect. I liked how the movie keeps you guessing about the killer until the end.

The Story and Performances

I think Jeetendra did a decent job. He looks very different as the priest. His performance as the SP is also strong. Aditya Pancholi brings his usual charm and intensity to the screen. He was quite popular for such roles back then. The chemistry between the actors feels natural.

The director, A. Jagannathan, was known for making South-style masala movies. He also directed Phool Aur Angaar with Mithun Chakraborty. If I compare the two, Phool Aur Angaar had much more action. It was a loud and angry movie.

On the other hand, Tahqiqaat is a bit more controlled. It focuses more on the mystery than just fights. I feel Jagannathan handled the suspense well here. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I want to talk about the technical side now. I watched this in 4K resolution. I must say, the picture is much clearer now. The colors look more natural. They are not washed out like the old DVD versions. I could see the details in Jeetendra’s priest outfit clearly.

However, I have some complaints about the Hindi dubbing. Back in the 90s, movies were dubbed in a studio after filming. In this 4K version, the audio sounds very sharp. But the lip-sync is often off. I noticed many scenes where the actors’ lips move, but the sound comes a second later.

It feels a bit distracting. The voice quality for Jeetendra is okay. But for some side characters, the dubbing feels very fake. It sounds like they used the same two or three people for everyone. The background music is loud. Sometimes it hides the dialogues. I wish they had cleaned up the audio as much as the video.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? I would say no. Even though the 4K video is good, the movie itself is a one-time watch. I think it is great for nostalgia. If you saw it as a kid, you will enjoy it. But it is not a masterpiece that needs high-end resolution.

I found the plot predictable in some places. The technical flaws in the dubbing also ruin the experience a bit. I suggest watching it on a regular screen. It is a fun movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon. But don’t expect a modern thriller experience.

Conclusion

I had fun watching Tahqiqaat again. It reminded me of the old days of Bollywood. The suspense is good. The actors did their best. But the dubbing issues and dated direction keep it from being a classic. I enjoyed the mystery, but the technical side could be better.
