If you are a fan of 80s Bollywood, you know that era was special. I recently re-watched the action classic Aakhri Baazi. The director, Ashok Gaekwad, was a master at making raw action movies. I have seen his other films like Phool Aur Angaar and Raja Bhaiyya. When I compare Aakhri Baazi to Phool Aur Angaar, I feel this movie is more balanced. Phool Aur Angaar was very violent and dark.

However, Aakhri Baazi has more family moments. It reminds me of the movies we have reviewed on hdfolders.com where the hero fights for his family’s honor. Gaekwad has a specific style of filming fight scenes. He uses long shots and real stunts. You won’t see much fake CGI here. Everything feels very grounded and real.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this movie in a remastered 4K format. I must say, the picture quality is a huge jump from the old DVDs. The colors look very fresh. The red and blue shades in the costumes really pop out. The grain is still there, but it makes the movie look like a classic film.

However, I have some complaints about the technical side. Let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing and audio sync. I noticed that in several scenes, the audio does not match the actors’ lips. This happened a lot in 80s movies. The voices were often recorded later in a studio.

In some action sequences, the “dishoom” sounds come a split second late. The background music is also very loud. Sometimes, the music drowns out the dialogues. If you are watching this on a high-end sound system, you might have to keep adjusting the volume. The 4K visuals are great, but the audio still feels old.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it worth a 4K watch?

Now, the big question. Should you spend your time watching this in 4K?

If you are a hardcore fan of Govinda or Shatrughan Sinha, then yes. The 4K version makes their faces look very clear. You can see the emotions better. But for a regular movie lover, I think this is a one-time view. The story is something we have seen many times before. It is a good movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon for nostalgia.

I enjoyed the action, but the slow pace in the middle was a bit boring. The 4K upgrade is nice, but it doesn’t change the fact that the movie is a bit dated.
