Amavas Movie Review: Does This Hindi Horror Film Deliver?

I recently sat down to watch the Hindi horror film Amavas. I have always been a fan of ghost stories. But I also know that Bollywood horror can be a hit or a miss. This movie features Sachiin Joshi and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles. It is directed by Bhushan Patel, who is a well-known name in this genre. After watching it, I have a lot to say about whether this movie actually delivers the chills it promises.

What is the Story About?

The story is quite simple. A couple goes to an old, dark mansion in the UK. They want to spend some romantic time together. However, the house has a dark secret. Soon, strange things start happening. I felt the plot was very similar to many other horror movies we have seen. There is a spooky caretaker and a mystery from the past. I think the first half was a bit slow. It took a lot of time to get to the actual scary parts.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this movie in 4K resolution on my big screen. I must say, the 4K quality is quite good. The dark scenes look very clear. The colors are deep and moody, which fits the horror theme. If you want to check out more high-quality reviews, you can visit hdfolders.com for more updates.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing and audio. Even though this is a Hindi film, many scenes felt like they were fixed in a studio later. I noticed that the lip-sync was a bit off in some places. When Nargis Fakhri speaks, the voice and the lip movements don’t always match perfectly. This made the experience feel a bit fake to me. The background score is loud. It tries hard to make you jump, but sometimes it is just too much noise.

Comparing Amavas to Other Bhushan Patel Films

Bhushan Patel has given us movies like 1920: Evil Returns and Ragini MMS 2. You can read more about his work on Wikipedia. I personally liked his previous films more. Ragini MMS 2 had a better grip on the audience. Amavas feels a bit weak in comparison. The jump scares in his earlier movies felt more natural. In this film, I could guess when the ghost would appear. It did not surprise me much.

I feel the director tried to use the same old formula. A lonely house, a hidden room, and a spirit seeking revenge. It worked well in the past, but now fans want something new. The acting by Sachiin Joshi was okay, but I felt he could have shown more emotion. Nargis Fakhri looked beautiful, but her performance felt a bit stiff in the scary scenes.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it Worth a 4K Watch?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? Well, if you love great visuals, then yes. The cinematography is the best part of the film. The old mansion looks great in high definition. But if you are looking for a very scary story, you might be disappointed.

I would say this is a one-time watch. It is good for a boring weekend when you have nothing else to do. It won’t give you nightmares, but it has a few decent moments. The technical side is strong, but the soul of the movie is a bit thin.

Conclusion

Overall, Amavas is an average horror film. It has good production values but lacks a fresh story. The dubbing issues and predictable scares pull it down. I expected more from the director who gave us some good hits earlier. If you are a die-hard fan of the cast, give it a try. Otherwise, you can skip it or watch it just once.

My Rating: 2.5/5
