I recently sat down to watch the movie Aatma, featuring Neha Bajpai and Mukesh Tiwari. This film belongs to that era of Bollywood horror where the focus was on spooky vibes and dark secrets. My Honest Thoughts on the Story

I felt the plot of Aatma is quite a standard horror story. It follows a doctor who gets caught up in a web of supernatural events. Neha Bajpai plays her role with a lot of emotion. Mukesh Tiwari, whom I usually see in comic or villain roles, does something different here. I liked his presence on screen.

This is where I have a lot to say. I watched the version that was advertised as 4K. I must say, the resolution is quite clear. I noticed that the color grading is very dark. I think they did this to make the movie look scarier. But in some scenes, it was hard for me to see the details clearly.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. Even though this is a Bollywood film, many scenes felt like they were re-dubbed in a studio later. I noticed that the Hindi dubbing does not always match the lip-sync. This was a bit distracting for me. I felt the voice levels were sometimes too loud compared to the background music. Comparison with Other Ramsay Movies

The director, Deepak Ramsay, comes from the famous Ramsay family. They are the kings of Indian horror. I compared this movie to his other works like Ghutan or Koi Hai. In my opinion, Aatma feels a bit more modern than their 80s films. But it still lacks that raw fear I felt in Veerana.

I think Deepak Ramsay tried to make this movie look more like a psychological thriller. In his other movies, the monsters were very loud. Here, the horror is more about the atmosphere. I still prefer his older work because they felt more original. This one feels like it takes inspiration from many Hollywood horror movies.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?

You might be wondering if you should watch this in 4K resolution. I think the 4K version is good for people who love seeing old films in high detail. I enjoyed seeing the textures of the old houses and the makeup.

However, for a normal viewer, I would say this is just a one-time watch. The story is not deep enough to watch it again and again. I felt it was a good experience for a rainy night, but nothing more. If you have a 4K screen, go for it. But if you have a regular HD screen, you are not missing much.

Overall, the movie is a decent attempt at horror. I liked the acting of the main cast. The technical side has some flaws, especially with the dubbing sync.
