I recently watched the 4K version of Moksha: Salvation on my big screen. This movie stars Arjun Rampal and Manisha Koirala. It originally came out in 2001. At that time, it was famous for being Arjun Rampal’s debut film. Looking at it now in high resolution felt like a completely new experience. The movie tries to be very deep and philosophical. It is not your typical Bollywood masala film from that era.

The Story and Performances

The plot follows Vikram, played by Arjun Rampal. He is an idealistic law student. He wants to change the world and help the poor. Manisha Koirala plays Ritika, his girlfriend. When I compare it to his other work, you can see his signature style. He loves wide shots and beautiful lighting. Most directors focus on the script, but Ashok focused on the look. Other movies he shot were more commercial. However, Moksha feels like an art piece. It is slower and more serious. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is the most important part of this 4K review. I was curious about how a 20-year-old film would look in 4K. I must say, the color grading is very well done. The greens of the forest and the skin tones look very real. It does not look fake or overly sharp.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing and audio quality. Since this is an old film, the audio has been cleaned up. I noticed that the Hindi dialogue is very clear. However, there are moments where the lip-sync feels a bit off. In some scenes, the voice sounds like it was recorded in a studio much later. It does not always match the mouth movements perfectly in 4K. Because the picture is so clear now, these small mistakes are easy to see. The background music by Rajesh Roshan sounds great though. The songs like “Janleva” have a deep bass that feels modern now.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it Worth a 4K Watch?

I have a mixed opinion here. If you are a fan of cinematography, this is a must-watch in 4K. The visuals are stunning. Ashok Mehta really knew how to place a camera. But if you are looking for a fast-paced thriller, you might get bored. The 4K resolution makes the movie look like it was shot recently. But the slow storytelling belongs to the past.

Is it a one-time view? For most people, yes. I would only suggest a 4K re-watch if you love Arjun Rampal’s early work or if you study filmmaking. The 4K version makes the flaws in the audio more obvious. But it also makes the beautiful locations look amazing.

Conclusion

I enjoyed re-watching Moksha after so many years. It is a brave film that tried something new. The 4K transfer is good, but not perfect. The audio sync issues are a small distraction. If you want a visual treat, go for it. If not, you can stick to a regular version.
