I recently sat down to watch Rajat Kapoor’s latest movie, Everyone Loves Abuda, featuring Kalki Koechlin and Lushin Dubey. If you follow Indian indie cinema, you know Rajat Kapoor has a very unique style. His movies usually feel like a play brought to life. This film is no different. It is quirky, a bit strange, and very human.

The Story and My First Impressions

I found the story quite interesting from the start. It revolves around family dynamics and secrets. Kalki Koechlin is great as always. She has this natural way of acting that never feels forced. Now, let’s talk about the technical side. I watched this movie in 4K resolution. The picture quality is very sharp. I liked the color grading a lot. It doesn’t look “filmy” or fake. It looks like real life. The shadows and lights are handled well.

However, I have some complaints about the Hindi dubbing. Even though the movie is technically in Hindi, some parts felt dubbed later in a studio. I noticed that the lip-sync was off in several scenes. When a movie is this realistic, bad dubbing can break the magic. I felt a bit distracted when the voice didn’t match the lip movements perfectly.

The background score is quiet and nice. It doesn’t overpower the dialogues. But that dubbing issue stayed with me throughout the film. If you are a person who notices small details, it might bother you too.

Comparing to Rajat Kapoor’s Past Work

Rajat Kapoor has a specific “flavor” in his filmmaking. If you have seen RK/RKay or Kadakh, you will recognize his touch here. This movie feels a bit more personal and slower than his older hits.

Compared to Ankhon Dekhi, I think this movie lacks a bit of soul. That movie had a very strong emotional core. Everyone Loves Abuda is good, but it feels a bit dry in the middle. I still think it is better than most mainstream movies we see today. It respects the intelligence of the audience.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this worth a 4K watch? Well, it depends on what you like. If you love seeing fine details and natural textures, watch it in 4K. The cinematography is clean and looks great on a big screen.

Conclusion

I enjoyed Everyone Loves Abuda for its acting and simple direction. Kalki and Lushin make a great team. The 4K visuals are a treat, but the Hindi dubbing could have been much better. It is a solid film but not Rajat Kapoor’s best work.
