I recently sat down to re-watch the legendary comedy movie Dulhe Raja. If you love 90s Bollywood, you know this film is a treasure. The main highlight for me is the face-off between Kader Khan and Anupam Kher. Their timing is perfect. I feel that modern comedies just can’t match this level of fun.

I watched the new 4K restored version of this film. I have some mixed feelings about the technical side.

First, the 4K resolution looks quite good. The colors are bright. The faces look clear. However, I noticed some issues with the Hindi dubbing quality. Since this is an old movie, the audio has been cleaned up. In some scenes, the Hindi dubbing does not match the lip-sync perfectly.

I felt that the background music was sometimes too loud. It almost drowned out the funny dialogues. I also noticed that some minor characters sounded like they were voiced by different people. This happens a lot in older movies when they try to fix the sound later. The original charm is there, but the “re-dubbed” feel in parts can be distracting.

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? I would say yes, but only if you are a huge fan of old comedy. If you want to see the fine details on Kader Khan’s angry face, go for the 4K version. It looks much better than the old DVDs we used to have.

However, if you are just looking for a quick laugh, a regular HD version is enough. The Hindi dubbing issues are more noticeable in high quality. If you are a casual viewer, a one-time view on YouTube or a streaming app will work fine for you.

I really enjoyed going back to this era of cinema. The duo of Kader Khan and Anupam Kher is unbeatable. Even with some sound and dubbing flaws, the movie is a joy. It reminds me of a time when comedy was simple and clean.
