Cycle Kick Movie Review: Is Sunny Hinduja’s New Film Worth Watching?

I recently came across an old film called Cycle Kick on a streaming platform. Most of us know Sunny Hinduja as the famous ‘Sandeep Bhaiya’ from Aspirants. Seeing him in this 2011 movie felt like a trip down memory lane. The movie is a simple story about two boys and a shared bicycle. It is a small-town drama that tries to capture the innocence of youth. If you are a fan of Sunny Hinduja, you might want to see where he started.

The Story and My Thoughts

The plot of Cycle Kick is quite straightforward. It revolves around a cycle that becomes a point of conflict between two students. One is a poor boy who needs it to travel. The other is a rich kid who finds it by chance. The movie also has a football match that settles the scores. I liked how the film showed the small-town vibes. It reminded me of my own school days. However, the story feels a bit dated now. The pacing is slow in the middle. I felt that the climax could have been more exciting.

How Does it Compare to Subhash Kapoor’s Other Work?

The director, Subhash Kapoor, later became very famous for movies like Jolly LLB and Phas Gaye Re Obama. If I compare Cycle Kick to those films, it feels very different. In his later movies, the satire is sharp and the humor is clever. You can see more reviews of his work on our site at hdfolders.com.

In Cycle Kick, the direction is very basic. It lacks the “punch” that we see in Jolly LLB. It feels like a director trying to find his voice. While it is not a bad film, it does not have the same polish. It is more of a light-hearted sports drama than a social commentary.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this movie in a higher resolution to see the details. The 4K version looks decent but not great. Since it was shot years ago, the colors look a bit washed out. The color grading is very natural, which I liked. It does not have that fake, bright look.

However, I have a big complaint about the Hindi dubbing quality. Even though it is a Hindi film, many scenes felt like the audio was recorded later in a studio. This is called ADR, and it was not done well here. My biggest issue was that the lip-sync did not match in several scenes. I found it very distracting.

The voices sometimes sound too loud for the environment. For example, in an outdoor scene, the voice sounds like it is coming from a small room. This ruins the “real” feeling of the movie for me. If you are sensitive to audio-visual sync, this might bother you too.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Now, the big question: Is it worth a 4K watch? In my opinion, no. Cycle Kick does not have the grand visuals that require a 4K screen. The cinematography is simple and functional. I would suggest watching it on your phone or a regular TV.

This movie is a one-time view at best. I would recommend it only if you are a die-hard fan of Sunny Hinduja. It is interesting to see his early acting style. He was good even back then! But for a regular movie lover, the slow pace might be a bit boring.

Conclusion

Cycle Kick is a sweet, small film with a lot of heart. It tells a simple story without any big stars or items songs. I liked the honesty in the performances. But the poor Hindi dubbing and slow script hold it back. It is a decent watch for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Do not expect a masterpiece like Jolly LLB.

My Rating: 2.5/5
