Mayamohini Review: Is This Hindi Dubbed Dileep Movie Worth Watching?

I recently sat down to watch the Hindi dubbed version of Mayamohini. If you follow Malayalam cinema, you know Dileep is famous for his comedy. In this movie, he takes a huge risk by playing a woman for most of the film. I wanted to see if the Hindi version keeps the same magic as the original.

However, I have some complaints about the Hindi dubbing. Usually, Hindi dubs for South Indian movies are hit or miss. In Mayamohini, the voice chosen for Dileep’s female character is okay, but it lacks the comic timing of the original.

I noticed that the lip-sync is off in many places. When the characters speak fast, the Hindi words don’t match the mouth movements at all. Some of the jokes in Malayalam were based on local puns. In Hindi, they translated them literally, and they didn’t feel funny to me. The background score is good, but the dubbing pulls the experience down a bit.

Is this movie worth your time in 4K? I think it depends on what you want. If you love seeing great costumes and clear visuals, the 4K quality is great. The colors of the sarees and the temple festivals look wonderful.

But if you are here only for the story, the Hindi dubbing might annoy you. I feel this is a one-time watch for most people. It is a fun movie to watch with family on a Sunday afternoon. I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece, but it is definitely entertaining.
