I recently sat down to rewatch Aankhen, and honestly, my stomach hurt from laughing so much. This movie came out in 1993 and it is still gold. In my opinion, this is Govinda’s funniest Hindi comedy movie ever made. It has everything—confusion, double roles, and a very funny monkey!

If you grew up in the 90s, you know how big this film was. Even today, it feels fresh. I think the chemistry between Govinda and Chunky Pandey is unbeatable. They play Bunnu and Munnu, two brothers who are always up to no good.

Why Aankhen Stands Out

I have watched many David Dhawan movies over the years. I liked Coolie No. 1 and Raja Babu a lot. But Aankhen feels different. It is much faster and more chaotic. The plot is a total mess of misunderstandings.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched the remastered 4K version of this movie recently. I wanted to see if a 30-year-old movie looks good today. The 4K resolution is actually quite decent. The colors are very bright. The reds and yellows in the songs look very sharp now. It does not look blurry like the old DVDs.

However, I noticed a few things about the audio and Hindi dubbing quality. Back in the 90s, actors used to record their voices later in a studio. This is called ADR. In some scenes, I felt the Hindi dubbing did not match the lip-sync perfectly.

Sometimes, the mouth moves, but the sound comes a split second later. This can be annoying if you look closely. Also, the background music is very loud. It sometimes hides the dialogues. David Dhawan’s Direction

I often compare this movie to Judwaa. Both have double roles and lots of action. But I think Aankhen has better side characters. The villain, played by Raj Babbar, is scary but also fits the funny plot.

David Dhawan knows how to keep the story moving. There is never a boring moment. Every ten minutes, a new problem starts for the brothers. It is a masterclass in “leave your brain at home” comedy.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it a 4K Watch?

So, should you watch this in 4K? I would say yes, but only if you are a big fan. The 4K version makes the songs look like they were shot yesterday. The dance moves of Govinda are a treat to watch in high definition.

But if you are a casual viewer, a regular HD version is fine too. The movie is about the jokes, not the pixels. It is definitely more than a one-time view. I have seen it five times and I still laugh at the same scenes.

Conclusion

Aankhen is a classic that everyone should watch at least once. It represents the best of 90s Bollywood. The songs like “O Lal Kurte Wali” are still catchy. Even with the slight lip-sync issues in the dubbing, the fun never stops. It is a loud, colorful, and crazy ride.
