Movie Review: Let’s Enjoy (2004) – The 4K “Dirty Comedy” Re-release

Recently surfacing on digital platforms with clickbait titles like “Dancing Car” and provocative Hindi taglines, Let’s Enjoy (2004) is a film that was originally lightyears away from the “B-grade” smut its new marketing suggests. Originally an indie “Hinglish” experiment, the film has been upscaled to 4K for a 2024-2026 digital run.

Here is a breakdown of whether this blast from the past holds up in its new avatar.

The Plot and Atmosphere

Set over the course of a single night at a farmhouse party in Delhi, Let’s Enjoy attempts to capture the aimless hedonism, insecurities, and relationship dramas of urban Indian youth in the early 2000s. It features an ensemble cast (including Aradhana Seth and Sahil Gupta) navigating through drugs, sex, and existential crises.

While the marketing now labels it a “Dirty Comedy,” the film is actually a precursor to the “mumblecore” genre in India. It’s less about slapstick humor and more about the awkward, often cringeworthy conversations that happen when a group of privileged 20-somethings get together.

The Hindi Dubbing Quality: A Major Letdown

One of the most jarring aspects of the 4K re-release is the Hindi dubbing. The original film was shot primarily in English and “urban Hindi” (Hinglish), which felt natural to the characters’ Delhi elite backgrounds.

The new Hindi dub, however, is disastrous:

  1. Loss of Nuance: The voice actors used for the dubbing sound like they belong in a low-budget action movie. They miss the subtle sarcasm and the “cool” nonchalance of the original performances.
  2. Lip-Sync Issues: Because the original actors spoke quickly and used heavy English syntax, the Hindi lines often lag or end abruptly, creating a distracting disconnect.
  3. Tone Deafness: The dubbing leans into the “dirty” aspect, adding unnecessary crassness to lines that were originally meant to be introspective or casually conversational.

Director’s Evolution: Siddharth Anand Kumar & Ankur Tewari

Looking at Let’s Enjoy today, it’s fascinating to see the roots of co-director Siddharth Anand Kumar. He has since moved on to become a major force at Yoodlee Films, producing gritty, acclaimed content like Ajji, Hamid, and Delhi Crime.

Compared to his later work, Let’s Enjoy feels amateurish and dated. While his recent projects show a mastery over tension and social commentary, Let’s Enjoy is a chaotic experiment. If you compare this to his polished 2018 directorial venture Abhiyum Anuvum, you can see a director who moved away from “shock value” toward structured, emotional storytelling. This early film is purely for those who want to see where a prominent industry figure started his journey.

The 4K Visuals

The “4K” tag on this 2004 film is largely a marketing gimmick. Since the movie was shot on a digital format that was relatively low-resolution at the time, the 4K upscale looks “waxy.” Artificial sharpening has been applied to the faces, making the textures look unnatural. While the colors are more vibrant, it lacks the cinematic grain or depth of a true 4K remaster.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it worth the watch?

The Verdict: A One-Time “Curiosity” View (Not 4K Worthy)

Don’t let the provocative titles fool you—this isn’t a high-octane adult comedy. It is a slow, talkative indie film from a bygone era of Indian cinema.

  • Watch it if: You are a student of Indian indie cinema history or you want to see what the Delhi party scene looked like twenty years ago.
  • Skip it if: You are looking for a high-quality 4K visual experience or a genuine comedy. The “4K” doesn’t add much value, and the Hindi dubbing actively ruins the vibe of the original performances.

Rating: 2/5 stars (for the film’s original intent, docked points for the poor dubbing and misleading re-release marketing).
