I recently revisited the 2003 movie Boom because I was curious about Katrina Kaif’s debut. It is a film that people still talk about today, but mostly for the wrong reasons. This movie features Amitabh Bachchan in a very strange avatar. It tries to mix the world of high fashion with the dark underworld. I wanted to see if the film holds up after twenty years.

The Story and Chaos

The plot is quite messy. Three supermodels accidentally get involved in a diamond heist. This mistake leads them into the world of dangerous gangsters. I found the story very hard to follow at times. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched the 4K version of this film recently. To be honest, I was not impressed by the 4K resolution. The film was shot on older cameras. The upscale makes the grains look very obvious. The color grading feels a bit too yellow and harsh. It does not look like a modern high-definition movie.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. This was the biggest problem for me. Many actors in this movie spoke in English on set. The Hindi dubbing does not match the lip-sync at all. I noticed several scenes where the dialogue continues, but the actor’s mouth has stopped moving.

The voice modulation for Katrina Kaif also felt very fake. It did not sound like her natural voice. The background noise often drowns out the voices. Comparing Boom to Kaizad Gustad’s Other Work

The director, Kaizad Gustad, is known for his unique style. He also made Bombay Boys, which I liked much more. Bombay Boys felt more real and had better humor. In comparison, Boom feels like a loud and confusing mess.

I think the director lost his way with this one. He tried to make a Hollywood-style crime thriller in India. But he forgot to write a good script. His other movies have a better grip on the story. In Boom, I felt he just focused on glamor and style.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it Worth a 4K Watch?

You might wonder if you should watch this in 4K. My answer is a simple “No.” The 4K quality does not add any value to the experience. The visuals are not grand enough to justify such a high resolution.

I would say this is strictly a one-time view. You should only watch it if you are a huge fan of Katrina Kaif. Or maybe if you want to see Amitabh Bachchan in his most unusual role. It is a “so bad that it’s good” kind of movie for me. I did not find it entertaining as a serious film.

Conclusion

Boom remains one of the most controversial films in Bollywood history. I think it failed because it had no soul. The technical flaws and bad dubbing make it hard to watch today. While the fashion is okay, the story is just not there.
