Dil Maange More Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia’s Romantic Hit

I recently sat down to re-watch the 2004 classic, Dil Maange More. This movie stars a very young Shahid Kapoor along with Ayesha Takia, Soha Ali Khan, and Tulip Joshi. It is a light-hearted romantic comedy that takes me back to the early 2000s. The story follows Nikhil, a simple guy from a hill station. He just wants true love, but he keeps finding himself in messy situations with three different girls. It is a fun watch if you miss that era of Bollywood.

A Simple Story with Good Music

I really liked how the movie stays simple. It does not try to be a deep drama. Shahid Kapoor plays the “boy next door” role perfectly. His energy is great, and he looks very natural on screen. The chemistry between him and Ayesha Takia is the highlight for me. Ayesha looks very pretty and her acting is quite sweet.

The songs by Himesh Reshammiya are still stuck in my head. Tracks like “Gustakh Dil” are classic hits. I feel the music is the soul of this film. Without these songs, the movie might have felt a bit slow in the middle. You can check more details about the cast on the official Wikipedia page.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched the restored 4K version of this film recently. I must say, the 4K resolution makes a big difference. The hill station scenes look beautiful and very clear now. The color grading is done well. It does not look too fake or overly bright. Everything looks real and pleasing to the eye.

However, I have some thoughts on the Hindi dubbing and audio sync. Since this was filmed years ago, some scenes were clearly dubbed in a studio later (ADR). I noticed that in a few emotional scenes, the Hindi dubbing does not perfectly match the lip-sync. It can be a bit distracting if you watch it on a large 4K screen. The voice levels also jump a bit between the songs and the dialogues. I wish the audio cleaning was as good as the video restoration.

Comparison with Anant Mahadevan’s Other Films

The director, Anant Mahadevan, has a very clean style of filmmaking. If I compare this to his other movie, Aksar, I find Dil Maange More much more innocent. While Aksar was a thriller with dark themes, this movie is all about heart and smiles.

He also directed The Xpose, which was very loud and stylized. Compared to that, I think this film is his best work in the romance genre. It feels more grounded. If you enjoy his style, you can read our reviews of other similar films on hdfolders.com. I think he knows how to handle multiple female leads without making the story confusing.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? I would say yes, but only if you are a big fan of Shahid Kapoor or 2000s nostalgia. The 4K version brings out the beauty of the locations. It makes the movie feel fresh again.

However, if you are looking for a groundbreaking story, this might just be a one-time view for you. The plot is quite predictable. But for a cozy night with a bowl of popcorn, it is a great choice. I enjoyed the simple vibes and the melodious songs once again.

Conclusion

I think Dil Maange More is a sweet reminder of simpler times in Bollywood. The acting is good, and the music is legendary. While the Hindi dubbing sync has some minor issues, the 4K visuals make up for it. It is a feel-good movie that will leave you with a smile.
