I recently watched the movie Good Boy Bad Boy again. This film stars Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Dutta. It is a typical Bollywood romantic comedy from the mid-2000s. If you grew up in that era, you probably remember the songs. I wanted to see if the movie still holds up today.

The Story and Characters

The story is about two students with the same name. One is Raju (Emraan Hashmi), who is the “Bad Boy.” The other is Rajan (Tusshar Kapoor), the “Good Boy.” Due to a mistake, their classes get swapped. Raju ends up in the clever section. Rajan ends up with the naughty kids.

I think Emraan Hashmi was the best part of the movie. He plays the cool, careless guy very well. Tanushree Dutta looks beautiful, but she does not have much to do. The chemistry between them is okay, but not his best. I found the comedy a bit loud at times. However, it is still a fun watch if you want something light.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched the upgraded version of this film recently. Let’s talk about the 4K resolution first. The picture is much clearer than the old DVDs. The colors are very bright and pop on the screen. I noticed the skin tones look natural most of the time.

However, I have some complaints about the technical side. Even though this is an original Hindi movie, the “dubbing” or ADR (post-sync) is not perfect. In many scenes, the audio does not match the lip-sync. You can see the actors saying something else, but the voice sounds different.

I felt the background score was way too loud. It sometimes hides the dialogues. If you are watching this on a big home theater, you might have to adjust the volume. Compared to other Hindi movies on our site, the sound mixing here feels a bit dated.

How it Compares to Other Ashwini Chaudhary Films

The director, Ashwini Chaudhary, has a mixed filmography. He directed the movie Dhoop, which was very serious and deep. In comparison, Good Boy Bad Boy feels very childish. It is clear he wanted to make a commercial “masala” hit here.

I think his other movie, Jodi Breakers, was much better in terms of style. This movie feels like it is trying too hard to be “cool” for teenagers. The sets look a bit fake, and the college doesn’t feel real. If you like the director’s work, you might find this interesting. But do not expect the depth of his earlier films.

Viewer’s Verdict: Is it a 4K Watch?

So, should you watch this in 4K? I would say no. This movie is a one-time watch for nostalgia. The 4K resolution does not add much to the experience. The story is simple and the visuals are not grand.

I recommend watching it if you are a fan of Emraan Hashmi’s old songs. Himesh Reshammiya’s music is the real hero here. “Ashique Banaya Aapne” era fans will love the tracks. But for a serious movie lover, it might feel a bit boring.

Conclusion

Good Boy Bad Boy is a decent time-pass movie. It has funny moments and good music. But the bad lip-sync and loud acting make it hard to love. It is definitely not a masterpiece. I enjoyed the nostalgia, but I won’t watch it again soon.
