I recently sat down to watch the classic movie Jaise Ko Taisa. This film features Jeetendra and Reena Roy in lead roles. It is a typical 1970s entertainer with a lot of drama and action. If you love old Bollywood movies, you probably know this one for its famous songs. Jeetendra plays a double role here, which was very popular back then. One character is a simple villager, while the other is a rich city man. Watching them switch places is still quite fun even after all these years.

The Story and Performances

The plot of Jaise Ko Taisa is simple but engaging. It follows two brothers who look exactly the same but live very different lives. I liked how Jeetendra handled both roles. He brought a lot of energy to the screen. Reena Roy looked beautiful and played her part well. Their chemistry in the songs is the best part of the movie. You can read more about the cast on the official Wikipedia page.

I felt the story moved quickly. It did not feel boring at any point. The comedy scenes were light and made me laugh. It reminded me of other movies like Humjoli, which also had Jeetendra in a funny and energetic role.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

Now, let’s talk about the technical side. I watched the 4K restored version of this film. I must say, the picture quality is a bit of a mixed bag. The colors look much better than the old DVD versions. The reds and greens look bright and clean. However, the 4K resolution shows some grain. This is expected from a movie made in 1973.

I also looked closely at the Hindi dubbing and audio sync. Since many scenes were recorded in a studio later, the lip-sync is not perfect. In some scenes, the words don’t match the actors’ lips at all. This is very noticeable in the high-definition version. The background music is loud, which sometimes hides the dialogue. If you are a fan of modern crisp audio, this might bother you. But for me, it added to the old-school charm.

Comparison with Other Movies

The director, P. Mallikharjuna Rao, was known for making commercial hits. When I compare this to his other films, I feel he focused more on entertainment here. Unlike some of his deeper dramas, this movie is a pure “masala” film. If you have checked out our other reviews on hdfolders.com, you will see that we have compared many such 70s remakes. This film follows the South Indian style of filmmaking, which was very successful in Bollywood at that time.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?

Is this movie worth watching in 4K? I would say it depends on you. If you are a huge fan of Jeetendra’s dancing and style, the 4K version is great. You get to see the colorful sets and costumes clearly. It feels like a fresh experience.

However, if you are just a casual viewer, a one-time watch on a standard platform is enough. The story is predictable, and the technical flaws like the dubbing sync might annoy you. It is a good movie to watch with your family on a Sunday afternoon.

Conclusion

I enjoyed Jaise Ko Taisa for its nostalgic value. The music by R.D. Burman is still legendary. Even though the Hindi dubbing and lip-sync have issues, the overall fun factor is high. It is a classic example of why Jeetendra was called the “Jumping Jack” of Bollywood.
