If you love a good murder mystery with a touch of the supernatural, you probably know Prithviraj Sukumaran. I recently watched his movie Lockdown (Diler Hindustani) on YouTube. This is the Hindi dubbed version of his famous Malayalam film, Cold Case. I was quite excited because I always enjoy a solid investigative thriller.

The Story: Logic Meets Ghosts

The movie starts with a scary discovery. A fisherman finds a human skull in a plastic bag. Prithviraj plays Satyajith, a high-ranking police officer. He is a man of logic and science. He does not believe in anything he cannot see or prove. On the other side, we have Medha, played by Aditi Balan. She is a journalist who starts experiencing strange things in her house.

I liked how the story runs on two tracks. One side is pure police work. The other side is about spirits and ghosts. Usually, these two things don’t mix well. But here, the director tries to bring them together. I found the mystery part very engaging. I kept guessing who the killer was until the very end.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

Let’s talk about the technical side because that makes a huge difference. I watched this in 4K resolution. The visuals are very sharp and clean. The color grading is mostly dark and moody. Now, coming to the Hindi dubbing. This is where many South Indian movies fail. In Lockdown (Diler Hindustani), the dubbing is actually quite decent. The voice artist chosen for Prithviraj has a deep and serious tone. It matches his personality. However, the lip-sync is not perfect. In some scenes, the Hindi dialogues feel a bit long for the actor’s lip movements.

The background score is loud and keeps you on edge. I felt the Hindi translation was simple and easy to understand. They didn’t use very hard words. It felt like a normal conversation. Comparison with Director’s Style

The director, Tanu Balak, is actually a very famous cinematographer. You can see his visual sense in every scene. He doesn’t rely on jump scares. He uses the camera to build fear. Compared to other investigative thrillers like 7th Day or Memories, this movie feels a bit slow.

Prithviraj has done many cop roles before. In this movie, he is very calm. He doesn’t scream or do heavy action. I think the director wanted a realistic cop. But some fans might find it a bit too simple compared to his high-energy films.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth your time? I think it is a great one-time watch. If you have a big 4K TV and a good sound system, definitely watch it in high resolution. The cinematography deserves that. The dark scenes look much better in 4K without any blur.

However, the story is not something you would want to watch again and again. Once you know the killer, the thrill is gone. It is a perfect movie for a weekend night when you want something serious and dark. It is much better than the typical masala movies we see often.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed the mix of science and spirits in Lockdown (Diler Hindustani). Prithviraj is excellent as always. The Hindi dubbing is good enough to not distract you from the plot. The slow pace might bore some people, but the ending is worth the wait.
