I recently sat down to rewatch Police Force: An Inside Story, starring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon. This movie came out in 2004. It was a time when Akshay was slowly moving from pure action to more serious roles. If you grew up in the 90s, you know how big the Akshay-Raveena pair was. I was quite excited to see them back on screen together for this one.
The Story of Police Force: An Inside Story
The movie follows the life of Vijay Pandey, played by Akshay Kumar. He is an honest police officer. He wants to do his job with total honesty. However, he soon finds out that the system is very corrupt. He has to fight against a powerful politician. Raveena Tandon plays his love interest. The plot is a classic “honest cop vs. bad system” story. I felt the story was a bit old-fashioned even for 2004. You can read more about the cast and crew on the Police Force Wikipedia page.
Comparing it to Dileep Shukla’s Other Work
The movie is directed by Dileep Shukla. Many people know him more as a writer for big films like Damini and Andaz Apna Apna. Honestly, I think his writing is much stronger than his direction. When I compare this movie to other action movies on hdfolders.com, it feels a bit weak.
In Damini, the tension was real and deep. In Police Force, the scenes feel a bit rushed. The screenplay does not give the characters enough time to grow. I expected more drama, but it mostly stays on the surface. If you have seen his other work, you might feel that this movie lacks that “special spark.”
Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing
Now, let’s talk about the technical side. I watched the 4K upscale version of this movie. I have mixed feelings about it. The 4K resolution makes the scenes look sharper. However, the color grading feels a bit off. Some scenes look too bright, and the skin tones don’t look natural. It feels like they just boosted the brightness instead of cleaning the frames.
The biggest issue I found was the Hindi dubbing and audio sync. Even though this is an original Hindi film, the audio feels like a dubbed South Indian movie. In many scenes, the lip-sync is totally out of place. I noticed that Akshay’s voice sounds a bit different in certain parts. It feels like they re-recorded some lines later in a studio. The background music is often louder than the dialogues. This made it hard for me to enjoy the emotional scenes. If you are a fan of high-quality Hindi dubbing, you might find this very annoying.
Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon’s Chemistry
I must say, Akshay Kumar looks very fit in this movie. His action scenes are real and solid. He doesn’t use too many wires or fake effects. Raveena Tandon looks beautiful, but she does not have much to do. Her role is mostly limited to songs and a few emotional scenes. I really liked their chemistry in the songs. It reminded me of their older hits. But in the serious scenes, the weak script didn’t let them shine.
Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?
Is this movie worth a 4K watch? In my opinion, no. The 4K quality is not great enough to justify the data or time. The audio issues and the poor lip-sync really pull the experience down.
I think this is just a one-time view for a lazy Sunday. If you are a die-hard fan of Akshay Kumar, you might like seeing him in uniform. But for a regular movie lover, it feels like a standard masala film. I would suggest watching it on a normal screen instead of looking for a high-end 4K version.
Conclusion
Overall, Police Force: An Inside Story is an average action movie. It has some good fights and the lead pair is great. But the weak direction and technical flaws make it hard to love. The Hindi dubbing sync is a major letdown for me. It feels like a missed chance for a good cop drama.
My Rating: 2.5/5
