Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review: A Visual Treat

I finally watched Kalki 2898 AD on my big screen at home. I have been waiting for this movie since the first look came out. Nag Ashwin is a director who takes his time. I wanted to see if his vision of the future actually works. After watching it, I have a lot of thoughts to share with you.

My Thoughts on the Story

The story starts in the past and moves to a dark future. I liked how the movie connects the Mahabharata to the year 2898 AD. Prabhas plays Bhairava, and he is quite funny in some parts. Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama is the real star for me. Every time he came on screen, I felt a lot of energy. The plot is a bit slow in the first half. But the second half makes up for it with great action.

Nag Ashwin vs His Previous Films

I remember watching Nag Ashwin’s previous movie, Mahanati. That movie was very emotional and felt very real. Compared to that, Kalki 2898 AD is a huge jump in scale. It is much more ambitious. While Mahanati was about one person’s life, this movie is about the whole world. I think Nag Ashwin handled the big budget very well. He did not lose the story in the middle of all the CGI. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is the most important part for me. I watched the movie in 4K resolution. The image quality is very sharp. The color grading is mostly orange and teal, which gives it a desert feel. The dark scenes look very clean on a good screen. I did not see any blurry parts during the fast action scenes.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. Usually, I hate it when the lip-sync is off. But in Kalki 2898 AD, the Hindi dubbing is excellent. It feels like the actors are actually speaking Hindi. The voice for Prabhas fits his personality well. Amitabh Bachchan used his own voice, which is always a treat. The dialogues in Hindi don’t feel like a cheap translation. They used words that sound natural to us.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? Yes, absolutely. If you have a 4K TV and a good sound system, please use them. The sound design is very deep and loud. The visual effects are world-class. If you watch it on a small phone screen, you will miss many details. I don’t think this is just a one-time view. I will surely watch the last 30 minutes again. The climax is one of the best I have seen in Indian cinema.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed my time with this film. It is not perfect, but it is a brave attempt. The mix of history and future is very cool. The acting is strong, and the visuals are top-level. If you like sci-fi movies with a touch of Indian culture, you should not miss this. It is a big step forward for our film industry.
