Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review: A Visual Feast or Just Hype?

I finally sat down to watch Kalki 2898 AD last night. I had been hearing so much about it on social media. This movie tries to mix our ancient Indian mythology with a futuristic sci-fi world. I think it is a very bold attempt by the creators. It is not every day that we see such big ideas in Indian cinema. I was curious to see how Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan would look together on the big screen.

How it Compares to Nag Ashwin’s Previous Movies

I have followed the work of director Nag Ashwin for some time now. I really loved his movie Mahanati. That film was a beautiful biopic with a lot of heart. However, Kalki 2898 AD is a completely different beast. While Mahanati was about emotions and the past, this movie is about technology and the future.

I noticed that Nag Ashwin likes to build very detailed worlds. In his earlier films, the sets felt very grounded. In this movie, everything is grand and massive. I feel he has handled the big budget very well. Compared to his other films, the pacing here is a bit slow in the first half. But the way he connects the story to the Mahabharata is quite clever. If you liked his style in Salaar, you will find this scale even bigger.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched the movie in 4K resolution, and I was blown away. The technical team has done a great job. The color grading is very unique. It uses a lot of earthy tones and dark shadows. On a 4K screen, the black levels look very deep. I did not see any blur during the high-speed action scenes. The CGI looks real and does not feel cheap at all.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. This is a very important part for me. Often, South Indian movies feel strange in Hindi because of bad lip-sync. But here, the Hindi dubbing is top-notch. I was happy to hear Amitabh Bachchan’s own voice. It adds so much weight to his character, Ashwatthama.

Prabhas also dubbed his own lines in Hindi. His Hindi has improved a lot. The dialogues do not feel like a direct translation. They feel natural, like a movie written originally in Hindi. The Story and Performances

I liked the plot because it feels fresh. The movie is set in the year 2898 in a city called Kasi. I thought the idea of the last city on Earth was cool. Amitabh Bachchan is the real star of the show for me. He looks powerful and his action scenes are great. Prabhas brings some comedy, though I felt some jokes were a bit flat. Deepika Padukone has a very serious role. She does a good job with her expressions. I also liked the cameo appearances. They kept me excited throughout the second half.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? My answer is a big yes. If you have a good home theater or a 4K TV, watch it there. The visual details are too good to miss on a small phone screen. I don’t think this is just a one-time view. I want to watch it again just to see the small details in the background. If you enjoyed Animal, you might find this shift to sci-fi very interesting. It is a great experience for the eyes and ears.

Overall, I really enjoyed Kalki 2898 AD. It is a great step forward for Indian movies. The mix of history and future is handled well. The 4K quality is beautiful, and the Hindi dubbing is excellent.
