I finally sat down to watch Kalki 2898 AD, and I have a lot to say. This movie was one of the most awaited films of the year. I was very excited to see Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan together. The film tries to mix Indian mythology with a futuristic world. It is a big step for Indian cinema.

The Story and My First Impressions

The story starts with the end of the Mahabharata. Then it jumps thousands of years into the future. I found the world-building very impressive. The city of Kasi looks dark and messy, while the “Complex” is clean and rich. Prabhas plays Bhairava, a bounty hunter. He wants to enter the Complex. Amitabh Bachchan plays Ashwatthama, and he is the best part of the movie. Every time he came on screen, I felt a rush of energy.

Comparing Nag Ashwin’s Work

I have seen Nag Ashwin’s previous film, Mahanati. That movie was a classic drama. It was very emotional and grounded. In Kalki 2898 AD, he shows a different side. He has handled the big scale very well. I think he is brave to try something this big.

Compared to his older films, this one feels very different. While Mahanati focused on one person’s life, this movie builds a whole universe. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is the part I was most curious about. I watched the movie in 4K resolution. The visual quality is top-notch. The black levels are deep and the details on the costumes are clear. The color grading is mostly grey and orange, which fits the future theme. I really liked how the CGI looked on my big screen. It did not look cheap at all.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. I feel the dubbing is quite good but not perfect. Amitabh Bachchan dubbed his own voice, which is amazing. His voice adds a lot of weight to the scenes. For Prabhas, the voice fits his personality well. However, the lip-sync in a few scenes felt a bit off. I noticed that some words didn’t match the mouth movements exactly. This happens a lot in big South Indian films dubbed in Hindi. But overall, the Hindi dialogues felt natural and not like a direct translation.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? My answer is a big yes. You should watch this in 4K HDR if you have the chance. The visuals and the sound design are made for a high-quality experience. The world of Kasi looks stunning with all that detail.

If you are a fan of sci-fi and mythology, you will love it. But if you only care about the story, it might feel a bit long. For me, the last 30 minutes alone make it worth a high-quality watch. I would definitely watch the climax again just for the visuals and the background score.

Conclusion

Kalki 2898 AD is a great attempt at something new. It has some pacing issues, but the vision is big. The acting by Amitabh Bachchan is a masterclass. The technical side is very strong for an Indian movie. I hope the next part fixes the slow pace of the first half.
