I finally watched Kalki 2898 AD last night on my big screen. I was really curious to see how Nag Ashwin would handle such a huge scale. After the success of his previous movies, my hopes were very high. I wanted to see if this Indian sci-fi movie could actually compete with Hollywood.

Nag Ashwin’s Vision vs His Past Work

I have followed Nag Ashwin’s work for a long time. His last big movie was Mahanati, which was a masterpiece. That movie was a very emotional and grounded drama. However, in Kalki 2898 AD, he takes a massive leap. He moves from human emotions to a futuristic world filled with robots and gods.

I think he did a great job with the world-building. But I missed the tight pacing he had in his earlier films. This movie feels much bigger, but sometimes the story moves a bit slow. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this movie in 4K resolution, and I was blown away. The color grading is top-notch. The dark scenes look very deep and clear. I did not see any grains or blurry parts during the action scenes. The CGI looks very real and does not feel cheap at all.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing. This is a very important part for me. Often, South Indian movies feel weird when dubbed in Hindi. But here, the Hindi dubbing matches the lip-sync almost perfectly. I noticed that Amitabh Bachchan’s voice carries a lot of weight.

Prabhas’s Hindi dubbing was also quite natural. It didn’t feel like a separate track playing over the video. The dialogues were translated well. They used simple Hindi that was easy to understand. I really liked how the dubbing team kept the emotions intact.

My Thoughts on the Story

I loved how the movie mixes Indian mythology with the future. The characters of Ashwatthama and Bhairava are written very well. I felt that the first half was a bit slow as it was setting up the world. But the second half is where the real fun starts. The climax left me wanting more. I think the balance between the Mahabharata scenes and the year 2898 was handled nicely.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? My answer is a big yes. You should not watch this on a small mobile screen for the first time. The visuals are meant for a big 4K display. There are so many small details in the background of “The Complex” and “Shambala” that you will miss on low resolution.

I don’t think this is just a one-time view. I have already watched some scenes twice just to look at the art design. It is a visual treat for any movie lover. If you love sci-fi and great visuals, this is definitely for you.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed Kalki 2898 AD. It is a bold step for Indian cinema. Even though the first half is a bit dragging, the technical quality makes up for it. The Hindi dubbing is one of the best I have heard in recent times. Nag Ashwin has proven that he can handle big stars and big budgets very well.
