Ramanujan Movie Review: A Touching Tribute to the Mathematical Genius

I finally sat down to watch the movie Ramanujan. As an Indian, I have always heard about his genius. This film tries to show us the man behind the math. It is a slow, emotional journey. It shows how a simple clerk from South India changed the world of science. I felt a deep connection with the lead character’s struggle for recognition.

The Story of a Misunderstood Genius

The movie follows the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan. He lived in a small house in Kumbakonam. I liked how the director showed his childhood. He saw numbers in everything. I watched this movie in 4K resolution. The visual quality is actually quite good. The 4K version makes the old temples and Cambridge buildings look very real. The color grading is natural. It does not look like a modern, shiny film. It has a dull, brownish tone that feels like the early 1900s. I really appreciated this detail.

However, I have some complaints about the Hindi dubbing. The Hindi version feels a bit rushed. I noticed that the lip-sync is not perfect. Many times, the character is still talking but the audio has stopped. The choice of voices for the British characters also felt a bit odd. They used very generic Hindi voices. It took away some of the realism for me. If you can, try to watch it with subtitles in the original language.

Acting and Music

Abhinay Vaddi played the role of Ramanujan. I think he did a great job. He has very expressive eyes. You can see the pain when he is hungry or sick. Kevin McGowan as G.H. Hardy was also very good. Their friendship is the best part of the second half. The music by Ramesh Vinayakam is simple. It uses Indian classical instruments which sound very peaceful. It never overpowers the scenes.
