I recently sat down to watch the classic movie Sampoorna Ramayana, and it felt like a trip back in time. For many of us, this is the best old Bollywood devotional movie ever made. However, I have to talk about the Hindi dubbing quality. Since this is an old film, the audio was re-processed for the 4K release. In some scenes, I noticed that the Hindi dubbing does not match the lip-sync perfectly. It can be a bit distracting when a character finishes talking, but their lips are still moving.

I also felt that the background music sometimes drowns out the dialogues. The voices sound a bit hollow, which is common for movies from the 1960s. If you are used to modern crisp audio, this might bother you. But for me, it added to the old-world charm.

Why This Movie Stands Out

I have seen many versions of Ramayana on TV and in cinema. But this one feels different. The acting by Mahipal and Anita Guha is very graceful. They don’t overact. However, if you just want to know the story, a regular version is enough. The dubbing issues are more noticeable in high definition. For a young kid used to CGI, this might be a one-time view. But for someone like me, it is a movie I can keep in my collection.
