I recently re-watched the 1997 movie Sanam. This film features Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Mushran, and Manisha Koirala. It is a typical 90s Bollywood drama. However, one specific comedy scene caught my eye. Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this movie in a 4K restored version. I must say, the picture looks very clean. The colors are bright and look real. The 4K resolution helps see the details in the old sets. But, I have some complaints about the technical side.

The Hindi dubbing is quite weak. I noticed that the lip-sync is off in many parts. When Harish Patel speaks, the audio comes a second later. This is very annoying during comedy scenes. Timing is everything in comedy. If the sound is late, the joke feels flat.

The background music is also very loud. Sometimes, I could not hear the dialogues clearly. For a 4K restoration, they should have fixed the audio sync. It feels like they only worked on the video and ignored the sound quality.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time View?

Is this movie worth a 4K watch? I would say no. While the visuals are good, the movie itself is not a masterpiece. The story is quite predictable. The action scenes look dated even in high definition.

I suggest watching the comedy scenes on YouTube instead. The shaving scene is definitely worth a watch for a good laugh. But watching the whole movie in 4K might be a waste of time. It is a one-time watch at best for the sake of nostalgia. I recommend it only if you are a die-hard fan of Sanjay Dutt or Manisha Koirala.

Conclusion

Sanam is a mix of good comedy and average drama. The scene with Harish Patel is the best part of the movie. It shows how great 90s character actors were. However, the poor Hindi dubbing and audio issues pull it down. It does not feel like a premium 4K experience because of the technical flaws.
