I recently sat down to rewatch Ek Se Budhkar Ek, a movie starring Sunil Shetty and Raveena Tandon. This film came out in 2004. It is a comedy-thriller directed by the late Kundan Shah. I remember being curious about it back then because of the unique cast. After watching it again in high definition, I have a lot of thoughts to share with you.

The Story and My First Impressions

The plot is quite wild. It revolves around a quirky gangster and a massive inheritance. Sunil Shetty plays a character named Rahul. Raveena Tandon plays an undercover cop. I liked how the movie tries to be funny and fast-paced. It is not your typical Bollywood romance. I felt the humor was a bit loud at times. However, the energy of the actors keeps you hooked for a while.

How It Compares to Other Kundan Shah Films

Kundan Shah is a very famous director. He made the classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. When I compare Ek Se Budhkar Ek to his earlier work, I feel a bit disappointed. His older films had deep satire. This movie feels more like a standard masala comedy. It lacks the “real” feel of his 80s work. If you have seen his other films, you might find this one a bit too chaotic. It is more about slapstick jokes than clever writing.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

I watched this film in a 4K upscaled version. I must say, the image is quite clean. The colors look much better than the old DVD versions. I liked that the skin tones look natural. The 4K resolution helps you see the details in the action scenes.

However, I have to talk about the Hindi dubbing and audio sync. Since this was filmed in the early 2000s, the post-syncing (dubbing) feels a bit dated. In several scenes, I noticed that the actors’ lip movements did not match the audio. This is very common in older films, but in 4K, it becomes very obvious. My eyes kept going to the lips because the picture was so sharp. The background score is also a bit too loud. It sometimes hides the dialogues. Sunil Shetty and Raveena Tandon’s Performance

I have always liked Sunil Shetty in comedy roles. He has great timing. In this movie, he plays a tough guy who is also a bit confused. Raveena Tandon looks great and does her part well. I think their chemistry is decent. They have worked together in many hits like Mohra and Rakshak. But here, the script does not give them much room to show real emotions. It is all about the funny Situations.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K Watch or One-Time View?

Now, the big question. Should you watch this in 4K? I don’t think so. While the 4K quality is good, the movie itself isn’t a masterpiece. It is a “one-time watch” at best. You can enjoy it on a lazy Sunday afternoon. But you don’t need a high-end home theater for this. The dubbing issues and the loud comedy might bother you if you are looking for a high-quality cinematic experience. It is a fun trip down memory lane, but nothing more.

Conclusion

Ek Se Budhkar Ek is a loud and colorful movie from a different era. I enjoyed seeing Sunil and Raveena together again. But the weak script and poor audio sync hold it back. It is not the best work of Kundan Shah. If you are a die-hard fan of 2000s comedies, give it a go. Otherwise, you can skip the 4K version and watch it normally.
