I recently watched the 4K restoration of the movie Veertaa, starring Sunny Deol and Jaya Prada. If you grew up in the 90s, you know Sunny Deol was the king of action. This movie is a classic example of his “angry young man” era. I wanted to see how this old action film looks on a modern screen. Watching Sunny Deol throw punches in high definition is a different experience altogether.

The Story and Sunny Deol’s Action

The plot of Veertaa is a standard revenge drama. I felt that the story is quite predictable. However, people did not watch these movies for deep plots. We watched them for the dialogue delivery and the fights. Sunny Deol plays a man who stands up against injustice. Jaya Prada looks graceful and does justice to her role.

The chemistry between the leads is good. But let’s be honest, the action is the real hero here. I loved seeing the raw stunts. There is no heavy CGI like today’s movies. It all feels very grounded and real. You can check out more details about the cast on the Veertaa Wikipedia page.

Technical Quality & Hindi Dubbing

This is where things get interesting. I watched the 4K version, and the image clarity is surprisingly good. The team has done a decent job with color grading. The colors look bright but not fake. You can see the textures on the clothes clearly. However, some scenes still look a bit grainy.

Now, let’s talk about the Hindi dubbing and audio. Even though this is an original Hindi film, the post-sync feels a bit off in the 4K version. In many scenes, I noticed that the lip-sync does not match the audio perfectly. It feels like I am watching a dubbed South Indian movie. The background score is also very loud. Sometimes, it drowns out the actual dialogues. I think the audio restoration could have been much better. If you like high-quality sound, this might bother you a little.

Comparing Shibi Mitra’s Direction

The movie is directed by Shibi Mitra. He is famous for making mass entertainers. I have seen his other films like Ilzaam and Paap Ki Duniya. If I compare Veertaa to those, I feel this movie is a bit slower. Shibi Mitra usually keeps the pace very fast.

In Paap Ki Duniya, the energy was much higher. In Veertaa, some scenes feel a bit long. But he still knows how to present a hero. He makes Sunny Deol look like a giant on screen. If you enjoy old-school Bollywood action, you will see his signature style here. You can also read my thoughts on other 90s hits at hdfolders.com to see how they compare.

Viewer’s Verdict: 4K or One-Time Watch?

Is this movie worth watching in 4K? I would say it depends on your love for Sunny Deol. If you are a die-hard fan, you will enjoy the better visuals. It is fun to see the old locations in high resolution.

However, for a regular viewer, this is just a one-time watch. The technical flaws in the audio sync make it hard to enjoy fully. The story does not offer anything new. I suggest watching it once for the nostalgia. You don’t need to keep this in your permanent 4K collection.

Conclusion

Veertaa is a decent action showreel for Sunny Deol. It has all the elements of a 90s masala film. The 4K visuals are a treat, but the audio issues are a letdown. It is a good trip down memory lane. I hope future restorations fix the lip-sync problems.
